Student Mindfulness

Mindfulness is being present and aware in the current moment. Being free from distraction, focused on what we are doing, noticing our thoughts and emotions but not becoming caught up in them. Practising mindfulness regularly can help us to regulate our emotions, decrease stress, anxiety and low mood as well as increase happiness, creativity, attention and memory.

Grouding

Grounding is a technique all about sensing. Follow the grounding sheet to get in touch with your senses when you are feeling stressed or panicky.

Whats the weather pattern like in your body?

Take a few moments for yourself. close your eyes and take a few slow deep breaths. Now, notice what your body feels like. Any twinges, aches or pains? Any sensations or tension? How are you feeling? Try to check in with your body every day.

Thinking vs Sensing

Day to day we get caught up in thinking mode, playing over things that happened in the past or worrying about the future. We may be planning or problem solving. Thinking is necessary and useful in our lives but can be overwhelming at times and is all about ?doing?. Mindfulness in contrast is about sensing, or ?being?.
